“I wanna hold your hand, yeah, yeah, yeah” can be heard on Thursday at the Veterans Memorial Gardens Amphitheater in Holt.
The YellowSub Marines, a tribute band to The Beatles, will be performing during the third installment of the Music in the Garden concert series.
Prior to the free 7 p.m. show, there will be a cookout fundraiser at 4:30 p.m. that will cost $5 in advance and $6 at the event. During the intermission, there will be a costume contest.
The concert series so far this year has exceeded expectations and succeeded last year’s audience totals.
“I’m really pleased with the turnout so far this year,” said Kara Hope, president of Holt Community Arts Council. “The arts council is a new group, so for us to put this on successfully is really satisfying and I’m happy to help people have a free fun night out with their family. With the economy being the way it is, I think people appreciate free events that’s for the whole family.”
This is the second year of the Music in the Garden series, which had originally started as an attempt to bring new people to the Holt area and showcase the beauty of the community.
“We started it last year,” Evan Hope, co-chair of the Music in the Garden committee. “It was just the first major project for the arts council. The township has a nice park with an amphitheater, which most people didn’t know was there.”
Besides dressing the part as members of The Beatles, the band members thrive on audience participation. They choose audience members to join them on stage and guess which song is coming up next.
“We don’t just stand up and play songs,” said Russ Kalso, who plays the role of Paul McCartney. “Once they realize you’re not serious and just having fun, the audience eats it up. Fun is contagious.”
